Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, quiet town. It is the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive area that extends from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel lived in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. Her initial ambition was to be an actor, but after a sudden increase in size, her friends could no longer dance along with her. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet, 1 inch." When I surpassed my male counterpart and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In Brugel's case, it was the encouragement by her drama instructor at her high school which pushed her to take the step she needed. Teacher who recommended she try to get a role for school's annual production. She auditioned and ended up playing the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, Brugel has been involved in more than 60 shows, big and small. The most notable was the time she was cast as Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel played the role of the character of Rita on The Handmaid's tale, a series that was filmed over ten years ago.
